Music

Music INTENT statement

At Little Horsted CE Primary School, our Music curriculum is guided by our vision to Live, Love, Learn in the Light of the Lord, ensuring every child experiences the joy, creativity and richness that music brings.
We believe all children deserve inspiring and engaging musical opportunities that build confidence, skills and understanding, nurturing a lifelong love of music and laying strong foundations for any future musical study.
Our school values shape the way music is taught and experienced: kindness and love are shown as pupils listen to one another’s performances and celebrate each other’s achievements; respect is developed through appreciation of diverse musical traditions and the disciplined use of instruments; community grows as children perform together, collaborate in ensembles and contribute to whole‑school events; aspiration encourages pupils to refine their skills and challenge themselves musically; and resilience is built through practising, rehearsing and improving over time. With regular opportunities to listen, appraise, compose and perform—both individually and collectively—music becomes a vibrant, expressive part of school life, enriching children’s wellbeing and enabling them to truly Live, Love and Learn in the Light of the Lord.

Music Lessons and Performances

At Little Horsted, music is woven into the fabric of school life. Through our Sing Up scheme, every child takes part in a dedicated weekly music lesson of up to 50 minutes. Each session includes vocal and physical warm-ups, a main musical activity, and a chance to share learning through performance.

Singing is central to our school community. Children enjoy singing together in Collective Worship and at church services, enriching both our worship and our celebrations.

In the academic year 2025/26, we are following Year B of the scheme.
