Modern Foreign Languages
Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) INTENT statement
At Little Horsted CE Primary School, our MFL is French. The curriculum in Key Stage 2 is guided by our vision to Live, Love, Learn in the Light of the Lord and shaped by the values of kindness, love, respect, aspiration, resilience and community.
We follow the Language Angels scheme to provide a structured, engaging and progressive approach to learning French, enabling children to develop strong foundations in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Through interactive lessons, songs, games and meaningful vocabulary work, pupils build confidence and aspiration as language learners, developing the resilience needed to practise, make mistakes and improve. Our teaching promotes respect for other cultures and languages, nurturing curiosity about the wider world and reinforcing a sense of global community. Children learn to communicate with kindness and appreciation for diversity, recognising that language learning helps deepen understanding of others.
Our intent is for every pupil to leave Key Stage 2 with a positive attitude toward languages, a growing linguistic toolkit, and the confidence to continue their language learning journey as they Live, Love and Learn in the Light of the Lord.
Primary National Curriculum - Languages‘A high-quality languages education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. The teaching should enable pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing.’ (National Curriculum 2014 – Appendix A
