Mathematics INTENT statement

At Little Horsted CE Primary School, our Mathematics curriculum is guided by our vision to Live, Love, Learn in the Light of the Lord and shaped by our values of kindness, love, respect, aspiration, resilience and community.

We believe mathematics is a creative, empowering subject that helps children understand the world and equips them to change it. We promote the belief that everyone can do maths, nurturing aspiration by encouraging children to approach challenges confidently and see themselves as capable mathematicians.

Learning is built through clear, carefully sequenced steps, where mistakes and misconceptions are valued as opportunities to grow in resilience and deepen understanding. Children learn to support one another with kindness, listen with respect, and celebrate successes as a community of learners. Through rich, engaging and challenging problem‑solving, pupils apply their knowledge flexibly and creatively, becoming fluent thinkers who can use mathematics in meaningful, real‑world contexts.

In all that we do, we aim for children to Live, Love and Learn in the Light of the Lord; leaving Little Horsted as confident, reflective and capable mathematicians.
