Geography

Geography INTENT statement

Why do we teach this?

At Little Horsted CE Primary School, our Geography curriculum is guided by our vision to Live, Love, Learn in the Light of the Lord, helping children develop a deep understanding of the world they live in and their place within it.

Geography encourages pupils to ask questions about both the natural and human aspects of the world, building curiosity, fascination and a desire to explore. Our school values are woven through this learning: kindness and love are nurtured as pupils consider the lives of people in different places and the impact of human actions on the planet; respect is strengthened through appreciation of diverse cultures, environments and perspectives; community grows as children connect local geography with global issues; aspiration motivates them to investigate significant geographical challenges; and resilience is developed through fieldwork, data collection and problem‑solving.

As an investigative subject, Geography equips pupils with transferable knowledge, concepts and skills - enabling them to understand physical and human processes, explore places and environments, and develop informed, responsible attitudes as they Live, Love and Learn in the Light of the Lord.
